SAGE (Serious Attitude to Good Eating) is a small local business operated by local chef Neil Gunning. Trained in Christchurch New Zealand, Neil worked in Middle Eastern and Italian restaurants in Wellington for 4 years then moved to Sydney. There he spent 10 years working with Italian and modern Australian cuisine in Newtown. Neil then became Head Chef at MODE, Sydney's biggest catering Company, running functions at Town Hall, NSW Museum and NSW Art Gallery catering to corporate functions for major openings and product launches.
Neil moved to Bellingen 6 years ago in 2000, to a small acreage where he grows most of the fruit and vegetables for this venture organically. All other produce is sourced locally and organically where possible. He has recently, proudly become a father to beautiful daughter, Marlo. Both Cathy and little poppit are doing well! Neil has been the resident chef at Lodge 241 in Bellingen, for the last six years. Famous for the travellers breaky - lashings of everything; complete with pesto mushrooms! Yum.
